did some research..here are the interesting results that i thought you guys, or more specifically, girls, would like to know..

Another common myth is that muscle gained during a strength training program will turn to fat once you stop strength training. Again, muscle and fat are two different tissues which are completely independent of each other. If you stop weight training, your muscles will shrink because the stimulus to increase or maintain their size is no longer there; but by no means can they, or will they, turn into fat.

If you feel your body is becoming less toned or, for lack of a better word, more “soft” it is simply because your proportion of fat to muscle has changed. Fat, although you may not have gained any more of it, is now dominant simply because you have lost muscle. Another possible reason for the change is a common problem that exists with many people, primarily athletes. The problem is that they stop exercising, but maintain their eating habits, and thus slowly begin to put on weight. If you had been exercising but stopped, be sure to make dietary changes to compensate for the decrease in daily energy expenditure.

oh btw whatever you achieve wil be lost in 3 months if you stop training completely. this is the principle of reversibility. sounds like good news to me..lalala.

but train hard pple.

omg. i have been sleeping almost 9+ hours EVERYDAY..reading this book about how sleeping in the dark changes your body hormones, serotinin to melatonin.

cool book. includes physics, nutritional science, history (how we evolved), biology, microbiology, chemistry, politics..everything in one. and guess what. half the book is biblio.

really admire the author, being able to piece so much info from so many sources and summarizing them into one book. oh it includes evaluation on claims from WHO (world health organisation), as well as atkins and low fat diets.

worth the time reading. but seems ironic that i stay up to read when the title of the book is 'LIGHTS OUT'.

cheerios.

hmm ok so here it goes. this is one of our dates to IKEA before my exams. supposed to buy my study table for the exams but no more stock.. and until now still no more stock. HALLO IKEA WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! nvm la, got excuse not to do well eh.tsk. anyway, here's my food experience.

this marathon was bad. we started off as a team of 3, me, uncle and zhi yuan, but eventually broke up to individuals. initial run was ok..up till about 15km was still quite relaxing. but zy got some knee pain from the 17km mark..and had to walk...so it was me and uncle. at 21st km mark, uncle felt muscle cramp, i had chest pains, so we had to stop for awhile. then zy WALKED past us...haha..after eating half a banana from uncle, my chest pain was gone,so it was heartburn afterall. =) and i continued jogging and caught up with zy. but later we split cuz his knee was giving probs. haiz..

anyway enough of those procedures..here are some interesting incidents.

1)someone held out a banana for a friend/relative..and i thought it was a banana station and i stretched my hand out for it. just before i touched the banana i realised it wasn't for me so i pulled my hand away..haha. you see when you are having gastric with another 18km more to go, banana looks like GOLD to you.

2) infuriating that i saw a couple/ about-to-be couple being supporters...they were supposed to cheer us but there they were, wearing the supporters shirts and sitting down. and when i passed by, the guy asked the girl, you want a drink? HALLO, who's the one needing a drink?

3) passed by another group of supporters who held out a tray of biscuits for the safra running club. this time i was FULLY aware that it was not for me but i kopped one biscuit anyway and said 'thanks' haha...

4) another supporter threatened us to continue running at the 30km mark, saying 'i don't want to see anyone walking'.

5) i held my precious biscuit in my hand for the next eh...8km? changed hands so won't be so tiring..lucky it was 'money biscuit' and fitted nicely in my relaxed palms so it wasn't much of a chore at all...

6) then i succumbed to heat rub at one of the medical stations. my first heat rub since my first marathon. and as i rubbed my injured joints with one hand i ate my money biscuit, which caught some heat rub and was already,by that time slightly sweat-covered.tasted good anyway haha..like mentos. anyone volunteer to check whatever drug is inside heat rub? cuz i cant really be bothered..hehe..

7) then there was NO MORE heat rub along the way, i stil had some leftover on my hand...and along the way offered to those who stopped cuz leg cramp. but none accepted my gift. so sad...should have continued to clock a better timing..hmphf. anyway i saw this guy hit the wall. it was a scaring thing..oh and when i mean hit the wall, it's not literal. it means you really can't take it and have to stop. it was at the 37km mark. he tried to go faster but muscles just gave way. and he sat down and the expression on his face was scary. pain and sadness and disappointment. then his muscles were all visibly cramped up, can see all the definitions.

8) and so i ignored the pain, telling myself i must be stronger than the past 2 marathons because i'm alone now. and so i pushed on and on...til i heard a familiar voice. my darling was waiting for me along the river! he ran with me in his slippers, telling me there are many more pple at the finishing line, and that it was near. i sorta knew he was bluffing me cuz there was about 1km more to go..but i still strided along. until the last 100m or so i did a sprint, and finished in 4hours 50mins. the actual timing would be faster cuz i din start at 6am exactly..so yay! i beat my first record! so happy! thank you my dear! i really dunno if i'd have beat my first timing if it were not for you.

but i paid a huge price. now stil limping...in the psat yrs i've had recovered within 1 day of the marathon and can start training weights for karate on wed..but this yr i doubt i can. hai.

anyway my uncle and zy both finished it in the end. it was a great accomplishment.

woohoo.

why do pple torture themselves by running the marathon?

i just heard a lecturer from NUS completed a deca-ironman-triathlon. means an ironman distance for 10 consecutive days... that's 50km swim, 1200km bike and 422km run in 10 days. take my hat of him.

salute.
